Choosing Deck Materials
No matter what type of deck you choose to build at some point you are going to have to spend some time choosing deck materials. While most decks are constructed with wood there are many modern up-to-date synthetic materials that are becoming very popular. So let’s take a look at some deck materials for you to consider.
Cedar
Cedar is naturally rot resistant and known for its strength. It is lightweight and good weathering wood. You will want to use, great Cedar of ground and heartwood for ledgers posts and near ground applications. Cypress

Pressure treated lumber
Southern yellow Pine is saturated with chemical preservatives that are safer than in days gone by. Redwood
Redwood is also naturally rot resistant and the same rules apply, use common grade middleware for framing members, decking and railing and use construction or clear heartwood for posts. Synthetics
Synthetics are manufactured and usually a combination of residence or plastic and recycled wood fiber. Since they are not wood they do not decay rot or are the victims of insects. One of the advantages to using synthetics for your deck materials is that it is available in various colors and appearances including some with wood grains. The cost on synthetic deck materials is significantly higher than would much you may find that you have savings in the long run. Synthetics may require special fasteners.
